Emmanuel - God is with us 3

“Noelle, it’s ok. Mommy is here with you. After this, we will go get some ice cream, ok?” My mother said as she was accompanying Emmanuel to have his injections in the hospital.
“O..o..ok. Ma, very painful. Why are there so many ants today? Noelle wants to go home.”
“I know dear, I know. Don’t be afraid of the ants. Be brave like King David. Does Noelle know who is King David?”
            “Who is he mommy?”
“Well, King David was a mighty king long time ago.”
“Did he lived in a castle?”
“Why yes, he lived in a big castle in a land far from here. He was really brave too. When King David was still a boy, he beat a big giant in a battle by just using a stone. But, he did that with the help of someone really special.”
“Ouh. Who was that special someone mommy? Was it another giant?”
“No, Noelle. That special someone who helped young David was God. David asked God to help him to beat the giant. And God sure helped him.”
“Woaw! I want God to help me through these painful ants too. Can I ask Him to help me too?”
“Yes, sure you can. Come, let mommy pray with Noelle to ask God to help you, okay?
            “Okay.”
All this time, I purposely sat at the other end of the room. I didn’t believe in God. Who can prove that Jesus is God? I mean, Christians can’t even see their so called God. I was really irritated.
“Close your eyes and fold you hands, like this.”
            Emmanuel enthusiastically did that.
“And follow mommy pray. Dear God, we pray so that You will help and always be with Emmanuel throughout these ants. In Jesus’ name. Amen.”
“Amen. I feel braver already mommy!”
My mom said, “Good,” with a smile.
Hwow, praying to ask God to help. Smart. And Emmanuel is claiming to be braver only after a  prayer. What nonsense? I said in my heart, and rolled my eyes

Emmanuel - God is with us 2

I scrambled to the telephone stand and dialed the numbers. With my hands shaking, I fumbled while dialing the numbers. Each second seemed like an hour. After making the calls, I went back to my mother. She was kneeling weakly on the floor, with unconscious Emmanuel in her arms. My mother was crying. That was the first time I ever seen my mother cried. Not knowing what to do, I just put an arm around my mother.
“Lord Jesus, why have You done this to us?” My mother prayed.
Well duh, there is no such thing as a God. Jesus was just a man who claimed to be God. Only idiots would believe in that. Now see what happened to Emmanuel.Oh wow, God is with us..yeah right. I said angrily in my heart.
“But Lord, Your will be done. I had dedicated Emmanuel to You when he was born. Do all things as You will. Thank You God for being so good to us. Amen.”
Wow. Now Emmanuel is not breathing, and you here is thanking whoever God is for that. Nice move mom.
My dad arrived before the ambulance.
On the 10th of July 2009, a few days after the incident, Our worst nightmare was confirmed. Emmanuel’s heart was malfunctioning. Besides taking handfuls of medicine now and then, Emmanuel also had to stay in the hospital for check-ups and so on. There was no cure. Our family could not afford an artificial heart. Emmanuel’s only hope of living life to the fullest was a heart transplant.
My parents told their friends at church about this. No, they were not asking for any advice of things like that. They asked them to pray to Emmanuel.
“Oh that’s terrible. I’ll pray for him. Believe this, prayer brings victory.” A friend told my mom.
“’For every time we pray, we move the hands of God’ Another friend told my dad.
They actually believed that. I just rolled my eyes.

Emmanuel - God is with us

I got to know God through the hard way. And this is my story.
My brother Emmanuel, or Noelle for short, was born on the 25th of November 2006. I was the happiest 9 year old girl the day he was born.
Emmanuel. That means ‘God is with us’ in Latin. My parents decided to give my brother that name for a good reason. They just received Jesus Christ as their Saviour. As for me, I was still a bit skeptical.
I didn’t believe in this God concept my parents embrace. Take the beginning of the universe for instance. According to science, this all happened from the Big Bang. Some chemicals collided with other chemicals, and BOOM, the universe was born.
But as for the Christians, this all happened because ”In the beginning God created the heavens and the earths.” Who is this ‘’God’’ anyway?
I mean, I love my family, don’t get me wrong. I love all of them BUT the fact that they are Christians. Since I was still 11 by then, I had to go where my parents go, right? So if they go to the church, I’ll just tag along with them. They asked me to go to Sunday school, I went, but all I do there was day dreaming. The teachers tried to “reach out” for me, but of coarse, I didn’t want them to.
And I hate the fact that my brother Emmanuel actually enjoys going to Sunday School. Every Sunday after church, he will ask me to sit down and listen to what he learnt that day. It could be about Adam and Eve, Jonah and the whale, strongman Samson and all those other nonsense. I would be physically there, but mentally I was somewhere far way.
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever shall believe in Him shall not die, but have eternal life. John 3:16” Wow, as if. A lot of people are touched by this verse. God loved them so much that, for their sin’s sake, sent Jesus to die on the cross for their sin. Utter nonsense.

‘’Noelle! Noelle! Come out come out wherever you are!’’ We were playing 3 year old Emmanuel’s favourite game, hide and seek, in the living room. I looked behind my mom’s flower vase, under the brown wooden coffee table, inside the playhouse. Emmanuel’s small size sure gave him an advantage of being a good hider. ‘’Noelle! ‘’ I think I saw toes under the long red curtains. ‘’ Oh no! I think I’ll give up! I can’t find you Noelle. Aha! Gotcha! Huh?’’
With the curtains still in my hands, I froze in horror as Emmanuel’s pale white face stared back at me. His skin colour was all drained out. He doesn’t seemed to be breathing either.
‘’Ma! Come here quick! Something is terribly wrong with Noelle!’’ Upon hearing the urgency in my voice, my mother, who was doing some chores in the kitchen, rushed to the scene.
“Oh my gosh! Lena, call the ambulance. Now! Call dad too! Oh Noelle, what happened to you? Noelle” (to be continued....)

Emmanuel - God is with us

Just an intro, this blog is about a girl's discovery about the AWESOMENESS of God. This is all fiction, so any names or events are 100% from my brain only. Enjoy! :)
